WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / ALL-STAR / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 / WEEK 8 / WEEK 9

July 22:: 2007

Coming off possibly the greatest All-Star game in league history, teams were now coming back in serious attack mode, tyring to put their stamp into the playoff picture. All the fun and games were over, now it was back to taking care of business. GNC All-Stars took care of business on Back 2 Basics, even with Allan Ray of the Boston Celtics who put in 35 points...K1X took care of PR Pride by only 3 points, despite "Serious Satellite's" 43 points...Court Masters took care of K1X on Saturday afternoon and defeated Pops 5 on Sunday afternoon in what is being called as the greatest game in Hoops in the Sun history.
Mike Glover of Court Masters, who's been dubbed as "Optimus Prime", showed his transforming skills Sunday afternoon vs Pops 5 as he poured in 40 points and 10 rebounds. "Prime was dominating the game in every fashion..even had his own sound effect with the transformation of his autobot-like self. If you have your own sound effect, then you're somebody in my estimation. His tag-team partner, Justin Burrell, dubbed as Megatron, helped out for the Court Masters "W" with 13 points. Now..why is this considered the greatest game to ever take place at Hoops in the Sun? Well a couple of reasons..Pops 5 were playing for their playoff lives...no team had a lead larger than 7 points...both teams scored over 100 points and combined for 231 points...Mike Glover had 40 points...Adris DeLeon had 39 points...both teams were running up and down the court, similiar to a Phoenix Suns .vs. Golden State Warriors game...it had toughness throughout the game, reminiscent to Georgetown .vs. Villanova..it was that intense for 48 minutes...the talent on the floor was unbelievable...crowd cheering for their heros and the rest of the Orchard Beach crowd filing in the bleachers when they ORIGINALLY wanted to leave...and it also took me 1 week to decide on what to write about this game...but with a game like that...they stayed for the remainder of the game. I would've stayed too! Like in every game, their had to be a winner and their had to be a loser. In this case. even though Court Masters got the "W" in the column, both teams won by putting on a great show and displaying the best game to ever take place at the beach. Not since 2003, where Start N' 5 defeated G.C.D. in triple overtime, have we seen a game like this, and probably won't for another couple of years. (View box score)
Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to Court Masters .vs. Pops 5: "Court Masters climbed into first place on the back of Mike ?lt;em>Optimus Prime?Glover. The Seton Hall bound forward finished with 40 points and 10 rebounds in a true instant classic at Hoops in the Sun. His performance lifted Court Masters to a 117-114 victory, and puts the Pops 5 team on the brink of playoff elimination. The crowd was electrified by the efforts of Glover, Dwight Hardy, Geddes Robinson and Eric Dunbar. Steve Burtt, Jr., Obadiah Toppin and Adris DeLeon played exceptionally well, but it wasn't enough as Pops 5 made too late a push in the loss. They did have one last 3-point attempt at the buzzer, but Court Masters' swarming defense stopped Burtt from hitting another dramatic three."

K1X bounces back from a Saturday afternoon loss by defeating PR Pride, despite Kenny "Serious Satellite" Satterfield punishing them for four quarters by pouring in 43 points.

You know how mosquitos and bees are annoying in the summer time and you just keep swatting your hands at them trying to get them away from you? Well that's how Kenny "Serious Satellite" has been to the opposition all season long. This guy just doesn't know when to stop scoring. I'm pretty sure he'll still score even if you put chains with a padlock over the rims. His next target was K1X...what did he do? Score 43 points...but it wasn't enough to get the "W" for the 'Pride squad. With the help of the "21 Jump Street" crew Anthony Glover (21 pts) , Corey "The Undertaker" Underwood (21 pts) and Fred "The Razor" Williams (21 pts) , K1X prevailed over Sat and the crew. This game will be crucial as the playoffs loom around. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to PR Pride .vs. K1X: "K1X's Corey ?lt;em>Undertaker?Underwood turned in a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 104-101 win over PR Pride. Underwood and Fred ?lt;em>The Razor?Williams (21 points, 15 rebounds) were enough to get by PR Pride and Kenny ?lt;em>Serious Satellite?Satterfield, who continued his scoring dominance with 43 points in the loss. K1X has a legitimate shot at the playoffs, especially with Underwood, Fred Williams and Corey ?lt;em>Murder by Numbers?Williams on the roster. PR Pride does, too. With each passing game, Satterfield is making moves toward back-to-back MVP titles, but for the former NBA standout, he's eyeing another kind of trophy…the championship "

DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars continued their road to success by defeating Pops 5 Saturday afternoon 104-98, going to 5-1 on the season and having sole possession of 1st place in the standings...

BJ "The Beast" McFarlin, about to get double teammed, was looking for the wide open man, as well as looking for a win over Pops 5. An anticipated match-up of the season, it didn't dissappoint the fans and the players. A grueling, knock down drag out affair it was, with DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars up by almost 11 points and having their lead cut down to 2 points with less than a minute remaining. Crucial misques on the Pops 5 part, led to DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars to take over the remainder of the game. This led to a W for coach Rah and DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars, propelling them to 5-1 on the season. Twenty Woodward led DDN with 22 points, Keydren Clark led Pops 5 with 26 points. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars .vs. Pops 5: "DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars have come around of late. They locked down a tough team in the Pops 5 Saturday, winning 104-98. While DDN/Sean Bell was the story with the victory, it was sad to see Pops 5 struggle to find their identity, yet again, this summer season. It could be the end of an era for Pops 5. Meanwhile, DDN/Sean Bell should be a very formidable opponent come the postseason."

Back 2 Basics' and Boston Celtics Allan Ray returned to the beach in a valiant effort over GNC All-Stars Saturday afternoon, but wasn't enough to get over the hump.

Allan Ray of Back 2 Basis and the Boston Celtics played hard against GNC All-Stars, but couldn't get over the hump over a hungry and energetic GNC squad. (Box score currently unavailable)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to GNC All-Stars .vs. Back 2 Basics: "GNC All-Stars and Back 2 Basics have had their share of struggles this summer. Although each team has some talented players on the roster, they haven't been able to keep pace with the top teams in the league. In this matchup, GNC pushed Back 2 Basics down in the standings behind a 110-99 win. Maybe GNC can make a late playoff push? Get your sun block ready, the playoffs are looming at Sun Stadium"

"Die Hard' Dwight Hardy of Court Masters looking on, figuring out how to defeat K1X Saturday afternoon. I guess 19 points would do it, even though that was his lowest scoring output of the season, it still led to a win for the Court Masters, improving their record to 4-1 and right in the playoff hunt. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to Court Masters .vs. K1X: "Court Masters, despite being a young team, continues to impress. They edged a tough squad in K1X Saturday, 87-84. Dwight ?lt;em>Die Hard?Hardy is a tough shooting guard and a viable candidate for either MVP or Rookie of the Year consideration. It'll be interesting to see if Hardy and Court Masters can keep things up the rest of the season."
