WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / ALL-STAR / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 / WEEK 8 / WEEK 9

June 24 :: 2007

People were asking how would the second week go in the early season of Hoops In The Sun 2007. The answer to that question would be three teams remained undefeated, three teams are still winless and DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars and Don't Fah-Get.com played in the first overtime game of the season. Plus the fact it wasn't as hot (temperature wise) as it was last week.
"Miles High" Mick Miles jammed home the dunk of the weekend for DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars on Sunday afternoon in their victory over the defending champions Don't Fah-Get.com in the night cap. Miles, the former X-Men player, didn't play until the second half due to a jersey issue, and scored 20 points in 20 minutes. Maybe the jersey won't be an issue next game with him putting on this type of a performance. DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars were down by over 20 points at one point during the game, but stormed back to force the game into overtime and capture the W. DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars were led by Steph Malliet with 23 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds, while the defending champions were led by "Silence Of The Lambs" Will Cadiz with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Announcer Bobby Cey on reactions to DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars .vs. Don't Fah-Get.com: "DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars fell behind by 20 plus in the first half, looked flat and were simply dominated by a Don't Fah-Get.com team that didn't have its entire roster at the beach for the nightcap. But the second half told an entirely different story with DDN climbing back on the shoulders of Steph Malliet and “Miles High ” Mick Miles. Miles didn't play the first half because the team forgot his jersey – not a good move for DDN. But in the third and fourth quarters, Miles' presence and Malliet's deep shooting, combined with solid efforts from their bench, boomeranged DDN back into the game. Don't Fah-Get.com tied the score and sent it into overtime, but DDN wouldn't let their miraculous comeback fall apart in the extra frame. This one gets my vote for best game of the day.     "

Corey Fisher, the young high school product, made his debut at Hoops In The Sun Sunday afternoon for PR Pride. What kind of debut the kid had? Well...Fisher finished with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. It was such an impressive debut that the fans were giving the announcers ideas of what his nickname should be. That nickname is still undeclared, but I'm pretty sure that he'll have one by the time PR Pride plays again. The other half of the dynamic duo, "Serious Satellite" Kenny Satterfield, led PR Pride with 35 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. Back 2 Basics led most of the way in this game but couldn't hold onto the lead when it came to the 4th quarter, which is where Satterfield and Fisher took over and the 'Basics basically had no answer for either one of them. Back 2 Basics were led by Mike Wilson with 27 points, hitting 8 three-point shots. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey on reactions to PR Pride .vs. Back 2 Basics: "Corey Fisher won't be anonymous for long in the nickname category. The explosive guard – the best young player next to Dwight Hardy that I've seen this summer – dominated for PR Pride Sunday, teaming with perhaps the best player in the league, Kenny “Serious Satellite” Satterfield in a victory over Back 2 Basics. Satterfield, a prolific scorer, showed his versatility as a player, finding ways to pass the ball instead of consistently taking the shot. PR Pride looked as sharp as ever with a balance of veterans like “Rockin'” Ray Rivera and Satterfield, as well as young standouts like Fisher, who's heading to Villanova in the fall."

Dwight Hardy of the Court Masters, coming off a 37 point performance last week .vs Enterprise, came into this week's game against the GNC All-Stars looking to construct more damage. He did so by having 23 points, 2 steals, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. The 'Masters were led by Eric Dunbar with 28 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. The GNC All-Stars, led by Craig Taylor (15 points and 8 rebounds) played catch-up most of the way and didn't have an answer for Hardy or Dunbar. This is a young, athletic team that has come out the gate at 2-0 and making people shake their heads a little bit, wondering how good are the Court Masters. They look to go 3-0 next week .vs. Back 2 Basics. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey on reactions to Court Masters .vs. GNC All-Stars: "Dwight Hardy is a special player. Following a strong showing in the inaugural Hoops in the Sun spring league, the up-and-coming star continues to impress in the summer tourney. Hardy and other specialguard Eric Dunbar carried Court Masters in the first game Sunday, lifting the team past GNC All-Stars. Court Masters is a team that could easily win the chip in 2007 with their young crop of rising stars, most notably Hardy, a fierce guard that reminds me a lot of a young Allen Iverson."

After a crazy first week, teams wanted to come out strong and show that their first week's performance wasn't a fluke. X-Men, after only scoring 60 points last week, scored 97 to defeat Pops 5, while K 1 X breezed through Enterprise from Philadelphia Saturday afternoon.

"The Condemned" Steve Burtt, Jr. of Pops 5, trying to find a way through the tenacious X-Men defense, but couldn't find the W Saturday afternoon as X-Men defeated Pops 5, 97-90 to remain undefeated in the early season. Pops 5, only with six players dressed, fought back from a 22-point deficit. It began to feel like Groundhog Day for theX-Men as they remembered squandering a 30 point lead in the playoffs last year to Pops 5 and losing in theat game, but they didn't squander the lead this time as Pops 5 would only bring it down to an eight point deficit. X-Men were led by both Reggie Roberson and Tommy Eddie, both scoring 24 points. Pops 5 were led by "The Condemned" Steve Burtt, Jr. with 34 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. (View box score)
Co-Director Randy Cruz on reactions to X-Men .vs. Pops 5: "This was an anticipation game for both teams. I'm pretty sure X-Men remembers losing to Pops 5 last year in the playoffs after being up by 30 points and also going undefeated throughout the regular season. X-Men didn't want to go through that again, even though it was beginning to look like it in the second half as Pops 5 were making their comeback, but getting out-rebounded and not getting back on defense, especially in transition and only having six players dressed for Pops 5 took a lot out of them and it's not east playing catch-up at the beach. X-Men is a veteran squad and they just had Roberson and Eddie going to work on every possession. X-Men is already 2-0 and I'm waiting to see if they can pull off another season going undefeated."

K 1 X defeated Enterprise Saturday afternoon 85-66. "Homicide" Corey Williams, had an easy day at the office this weekend, going 5 for 5 from the field and scoring 12 points. Bryant Chowder of K 1 X led the team with 15 points. Enterprise, who showed up at the end of the first quarter, never found a rhythm to their offense and were almost down by 30 at one point. Co-Director Randy Cruz on reactions to K 1 X .vs. Enterprise: "K 1 X came ready to play Saturday afternoon .vs. Enterprise...but they, as well as everyone else in the crowd, were expecting the real Enterprise to show up. No Matrix, no Hollywood, no Brock Bottom...they did have Mike Keyes, who scored 40 points last week .vs. the Court Masters, but Keyes wasn't going to be enough to defeat K 1 X, who came with nine players strong, even without "The Undertaker" Corey Underwood," who came late in the third quarter, but didn't suit up due to his attention span and focus on the ladies walking ont he boardwalk. We should see the real Enterprise next Sunday as they go head to head with Pops 5 at 2pm. K 1 X will take on Back 2 Basics next Sunday at 4pm."
