WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / ALL-STAR / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 / WEEK 8 / WEEK 9
Great Sunday afternoon with X-Men again showing why they are one of the top teams in the league, Pops 5 showing dominance over an undermanned Enterprise and a battle between Corey Williams and Allan Ray which is currently on intermission at this point because they never finished their duel...
 |
In the night cap of the weekend, it came down to K 1 X vs Back 2 Basics..which later turned into Corey Williams aka "Homicide, Murder By Numbers, Silver Surfer, CSI NEW YORK" and the thousands of other names he goes by.....vs. Allen Ray of Back 2 Basics and of the NBA Boston Celtics. This game was a goody with Williams and Ray going at it back and forth, but referees got whistle happy and gave Ray his fifth foul in the first half. Some say it was good defense by Williams, some say Ray wasn't getting calls on his end...only the fans could make the case. What they did see was the second half beginning with Allen Ray not on the court for Back 2 Basics...well....not even on the beach! Some say he left because he didn't want to get hurt on the court, some have other opinions which I won't say, but whatever the case was, Ray wasn't to be found in the second half. Williams ended up with 39 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Ray left at halftime with 13 points and 1 rebound. It was a good game until Ray left at halftime. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets"on reactions to K 1 X vs Back 2 Basics: "Back 2 Basics needed some help. So they recruited NBA ballplayer Allen Ray of the Boston Celtics. Ray, a former St. Ray's product and Villanova standout, suited up for the purple squad, but left at halftime, saying I don't want to get hurt. Ray left the game with five fouls the result of trying to keep pace with K1X star Corey Murder by Numbers Williams. Williams and Ray both played well in the first half, but Williams appeared to have the slight edge in the matchup with his team leading at the break. With Ray gone in the second half, K1X closed out the victory. It'll be interesting to see if Ray returns to the beach, and whether he'll go one-on-one with Williams in another matchup. Murder by Numbers is on his way to an NBA contract after winning an NBDL championship this past season."
Another jam for "The Phantom Menace" Obadiah Toppin as Pops 5 won in a lobsided affair over Enterprise, 117-90. Enterprise were led by Mike Keyes, who was unstoppable in the paints, with 44 points, his second 40 + point performance in three games. Pops 5 were led by the quick backcourt of Adris "Too Hard To Guard" DeLeon (25 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds) and Keydren "Wet Those, Shooter, Nor'Easter" Clark (26 points, 11 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds). Four Pops 5 players scored over 18 points in this game as they go 2-1 and look forward to a rematch with the defending champions next Sunday. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets"on reactions to Pops 5 vs Enterprise: " Dunk artist Obadiah Obiwankanobi/The Phantom Menace Toppin copped five terrifying' jams in a blowout win for Pops 5 against Enterprise. The Philly squad no longer consists of the same roster, but some newcomers and old reliable Mike Keys to Life Keys hung tough early until the quartet of Toppin, Adris Too Hard to Guard DeLeon, Neville The Machine Storer and Keydren Kiki Clark proved to be too much too handle. Keys, who played one season at Delaware's Wilmington College, finished with 40 plus, but the Pops 5 foursome all finished in double figures in scoring. Pops 5 is on track for another run at the title. "
The X-Men are 12-1 dating back to last season, Their one blemish came in last year's playoffs to Pops 5, but have won 12 consecutive regular season games, probably the longest streak in league history. They continued that streak Sunday afternoon vs PR Pride, who were balanced out by possibly the best backcourt in the league, Corey "Poseidon" Fisher and Kenny "Serious Satellite" Satterfield. The Satellite tune waves were there...35 points and 8 rebounds, the Poseidon was flooding the court with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, but it wasn't enough to defeat a well balanced veteran X-Men team, who came out on top 112-106. Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to PR Pride vs X-Men: "X-Men point guard Nate Brown was solid in a win over PR Pride Sunday. The veteran field general guided the offense, lifting X-Men to 3-0 on the season. PR Pride's Corey Poseidon Fisher once again dazzled the crowd, but he and Kenny Serious Satellite Satterfield perhaps the league's best player weren't enough against coach Professor X's squad. X-Men is as balanced and cohesive as ever "
The Court Masters just finds a way to win, remain undefeated, adding "Optimus Prime" Mike Glover to their roster and taking care of Back 2 Basics, while the champs got over their crushing defeat to DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars last week by making an example out of the GNC All-Stars
Don't Fah-Get.com, coming off a dissapointing loss last week to DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars in an overtime thriller which they were winning most of the game, came back with a vengeance this past Saturday by easily defeating GNC All-Stars 89-60. Aaron "The Problem" Williams led Don't Fah-Get.com with 22 points. Their number one scoring leader, Will "Silence of the Lambs" Cadiz, had an easy day with only 12 points. This is a game that GNC All-Stars would want to easily fah-get! The champs take on Pops 5 next Sunday in a rematch of the 2006 championship game. (View box score)
Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets"on reactions to GNC All-Stars vs Don't Fah-Get.com: " Don't Fah-Get.com won a lopsided affair over the GNC All-Stars Saturday. Rasaun Crabby Young and Don't Fah-Get.com remain an elite team coming off their championship at Hoops in the Sun VII (2006). GNC and Back 2 Basics are two teams that may struggle the rest of the season unless they add some parts to their rosters that are currently missing. Winning a streetball chip is not like winning any other title on any basketball level. Teams not only need talent, but they need chemistry and all the ingredients, from rebounding to shooting, to win the marathon that is Hoops in the Sun. The season may appear short, but remember: The Sun Hath No Fury. This factor tends to separate the men from the boys. Don't forget that! "
Court Masters have won five in a row - dating back to the spring league. With Dwight Hardy (nickname coming soon) and Mike Glover, who was annointed with "Optimus Prime" with his effort on Saturday (32 points, 12 rebounds), the Court Masters haven't lost a game in the early '07 season. If you were to look up Optimus Prime, it would say that Prime
battles his foes with unyielding resolve to uphold his belief, and Glover's belief is that he is one of the best up and coming big men in New York City. This kid is like a semi-truck just waiting to bash into his opponents at will, and he did just that in his first game at the beach Saturday afternoon as his team, the undefeated Court Masters, defeated Back 2 Basics, 100-90. Oh yeah, Hardy chipped in with 26 points of his own as well. Court Masters will have a tough test to remain undefeated next Saturday as they take on another undefeated team, DDN/Sean Bell All-Stars. "Autobots! Transform and roll out!"

Announcer Bobby Cey "Marv Albert of the Streets" on reactions to Court Masters vs Back 2 Basics: "Court Masters downed Back 2 Basics to continue its successful run at Hoops in the Sun dating back to the inaugural spring league. For Court Masters, Dwight Hardy is the engine that makes the team run. The former JFK High School star, who's heading to Illinois in the fall, not only runs the point, but can score by going to the basket or shooting from the outside. Court Masters is a young team that plays together. Forward T.J. Stokes and several other team members may not have big names on the streetball scene yet but they are on the rise. Hoops in the Sun men's teams be advised: Watch out for Court Masters in 2007."
